FAQs of the Newly Diagnosed
How can I make informed decisions after I am diagnosed?
- Write down questions for your doctor.
- Take someone with you to your appointment as an extra set of ears.
- Read all available material suggested by your doctor (ask for suggestions if necessary).
- Some literature titles that LBHN members have found helpful, include:
- "The Breast Book", by Dr. Susan Love
- "Love, Medicine and Miracles", by Bernie Seigel, etc
- "Cancer – 50 Essential Things to Do", by Greg Anderson
Common Treatment Questions:
- Will different chemotherapies affect me differently?
- Will there be side effects? When will they occur? What can make them more tolerable?
- Will I be able to continue to work?
- Will I be able to care for my family?
- Will I lose my hair? When?
- Where can I get a wig or hats?
- What reaction might I have to radiation? What are the treatment sessions like?
- Will insurance pay for treatment, a wig, a prosthesis, etc.?
