Benefit Basket Fundraiser
Every October, the LBHN celebrates Breast Awareness month by sponsoring a Raffle Basket fundraiser. The LBHN invites businesses and individual to donate products and services to be auctioned off. 8 Beautiful Baskets to be raffled. Tickets will be sold at different businesses and by the ladies of LBHN.
DATES AND LOCATIONS:
- Friday, October 2nd and Friday, November 6th at Leesburg’s First Friday by the Leesburg Antique Emporium from 5:30pm-8:30pm
- Friday, October 23rd in front of the Leesburg Pharmacy from 9:00pm-midnight at Midnight Madness
- During the month of October, The Leesburg Vintner on South Street, the Leesburg Pharmacy, and the LBHN ladies will also be selling tickets.
WHO YOU WOULD BE HELPING: The proceeds will go towards LBHN’s mission of breast cancer awareness, education and support within our local community.
TICKETS COST: $2 per ticket or 3 for $5
WINNERS ANNOUNCED: On November 6th, after the raffle tickets are sold (around 8:30pm) the winning tickets are drawn. There will be one winner for each basket donated.

Breast Cancer Tea & Fashion Show for Survivors & Friends
The Town of Purcellville, Carver Center, and Blue Ridge Hospice will host the 1st Annual Breast Cancer Survivors Tea and Fashion Show. This special event will take place at Carver Center on Saturday, October 24th from 11-2p.m. Seating is limited.
All mothers, daughters, sisters, grandmothers, aunts and friends are invited to share an afternoon of celebrating women who have been touched by this disease. Dr. Shannon Lehr, prominent breast surgeon from Inova Loudoun will be the guest speaker, along with the Loudoun Breast Health Network. Their hope is to raise enough money to purchase a post surgical rehab/fitness machine to be available for use at the Carver Center, as well as continue to cultivate a network of women supporting each other as they journey on their road to recovery.
A fashion show will be presented by the Blue Ridge Hospice Thrift Store of Purcellville. Featured clothing will be available for purchase. Music will be performed by Michelle Rubis and Anne Hennessey of the Loudoun County Symphonic Winds. Waterford Quilters Guild is donating two lap quilts to be raffled. Tea, light fare and desserts will be served.
The cost is $10 per ticket and will be sold at Carver Center (200 Willie Palmer Way, Purcellville, VA 20132). Checks may be made out to "Friends of Carver/Breast Cancer Tea".
For more information contact Marsha Cooper at 571-258-3706. Corporate donations are being sought as well as contributions from local merchants. They are hoping to present each survivor with a keepsake.

DECA Powder Puff Game at Stone Bridge High School (SBHS)
WHAT: DECA Powder Puff game. Watch the Senior girls play the Junior girls in flag football.

WHY: Raising money for breast cancer awareness and the Loudoun Breast Health Network
COST: $3 (proceeds will be donated to Loudoun Breast Health Network)
DECA will pink out the school on October 14. We will be selling "Fight like a girl. Beat Breast Cancer" t-shirts for $10, bracelets $1, bake sale as well as giving away pink spirit beads, ribbons and more!

"Dig Pink" at Loudoun County High
Loudoun County High School will host “Dig Pink,” a breast cancer awareness rally, Oct. 6 at 6 p.m. The event will feature junior varsity and varsity volleyball games between Broad Run and Loudoun County high schools.
Hundreds of college and high school teams around the country champion “Dig Pink” by featuring a volleyball match during the month of October and supporting the Side-Out Foundation. “Dig Pink” attendees will support the cause by donating funds, wearing pink to the match, participating in a raffle and enjoying “pink” treats. The cost is $5 per person.
Breast cancer survivors will be granted free admission and acknowledged at the event, while those who lost their battle to breast cancer will be memorialized on a dedicated wall in the gymnasium.
Ways to donate to the Side-Out Foundation include going online to www.side-out.org/application/teams/team_page/1395 and depositing cash or check contributions in “Dig Pink” labeled containers displayed at volleyball and football concession stands or passed around by volleyball players at home football games.

ROCK the PINK
Cheryl Daley, the marketing coordinator/DECA, said they will begin their 5th Breast Cancer Awareness week on September 28. They will have a week of events to promote awareness and take donations here at school. They will also be selling our famous t-shirts for $10.
On Friday night, October 2, at 6:30pm the gates at Broad Run field will open. The Game between Broad Run vs. Briar Woods Football team will begin at 7:30pm.
They will be leaving breast cancer in the dark by "Blacking out the stands" with lots of pink too! It is a carnival type atmosphere with cotton candy, bake sale, raffle, football toss etc. Lot of local businesses donate prizes and items for the event. Last year Broad Run DECA raise $8,500. Their goal this year is $10,000. The money will be going to the Susan G, Komen Foundation.

The Month of October, 2009 -
Paint the Town Pink
October is National breast Cancer Awareness Month and several events in Loudoun County have been planned to educate residents about this deadly disease. Breast Cancer is projected to take the lives of more than 40,000 women and men in the United States this year.
Leesburg’s annual “Paint the Town Pink” campaign which began five years ago to honor business owner Marilyn Helms-White who died from breast cancer.
- Starting the first week in October the downtown shopkeepers and restaurants are adorning storefronts with pink for the month. They will be handing out information from the American Cancer Society to customers.
- Many Loudoun business owners donated prizes to The Town of Leesburg that will be awarded in a November drawing. Raffle tickets may be purchased during the month of October at Gil Wellness Center, Eyetopia, Petite Dekor and the Pink Shop.
- On October 2nd raffle tickets for 8 LBHN Benefit Baskets will be sold in front of the Leesburg Antique Emporium from 5:30pm – 8:30pm.
- Throughout the month of October, The Leesburg Vintner once again is helping our community by selling LBHN Benefit Basket raffle tickets.

Susan G. Komen 2009 Global Race for the Cure
Join the Loudoun Breast Health Network for the Komen Race for the Cure on Saturday, June 6, 2009.
THE EVENT: Walk or run in this Race for the Cure event. Simply sign up for the type of participation you are interested in. The event takes place at downtown in Washington DC.
REGISTRATION: Register online by May 24th to receive your shirt, etc. via mail. Please go to the Susan G. Komen website to register. Click on "Join a Team" and enter our team name "Breast Center of Loudoun".
FREE BUS TRANSPORTATION: We are providing free bus transportation* from INOVA Loudoun Hospital Lansdowne Campus to the event downtown DC. A $10 refundable deposit is required to reserve your seat. The bus will be leaving Lansdowne at 5:45am and will return at 12:30pm.

Pink Posy Fundraiser
The Loudoun Breast Health Network will be participating in Leesburg's 2009 Flower and Garden Festival, on Saturday, April 18th and Sunday, the 19th, in downtown Leesburg. Come visit our booth for the Pink Posy Fundraiser, located in the parking lot of the Lightfoot Restaurant (for directions click here).
We will be offering "Pink Posies" and distributing information on breast cancer prevention and our work in the county. Our mission includes education, support to those undergoing breast cancer treatment, their families and caregivers.
